Tuesday Twaddle - Of cats and decorations but not many books, unfortunately

Happy Tuesday!  I've been a busy chick. We've been ripping up carpet and painting in the old house to prepare it for sale (although we do still have a renter and have to do our updates when he's away on business).  We finally got that job finished and a new carpet installed, today.

On Saturday, my husband came home from a trip to New Hampshire and he was determined to decorate for Thanksgiving.  I kid you not.  He went to the home of a fellow he works with, saw the family's beautiful table display and came home ready to shop.  You could have knocked me over with a feather when he walked to the entertainment center (where I'd placed the silver bowl, below), pulled the bowl down and said, "This is perfect for what I want to do!"  Uh . . . not sure how to respond to a thing like that, I just stood there with my jaw hanging.

So, we went shopping for candles (we already had the candlesticks), fake leaves, fake acorns and pinecones and two fat candles.  We already had some decorative squash that Daughter-In-Law kindly brought along from Nashville.  I set everything up while husband was sleeping and completely forgot to move the wing-it placemat I made from shelf liner.  I've since removed it, but naturally Fiona promptly jumped on the table and tried to eat the decorations before I realized my mistake, so the most interesting photos are also the worst.  I am so classy.

In reading news . . . argh.  I have finished exactly two books, this month.  One was only 81 pages long.  The other was a quick and snappy read, Moranthology by Caitlin Moran.  I got bogged down reading two fat books at once: The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas and Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver.  The Count is an old favorite of mine but halfway into it I just got worn out.  I have so little time to read. The timing is unfortunate.  Flight Behavior is wonderful, so far, and the book I plan to focus on, now that I've finished Moranthology.

In the mail:

Nothing.  Nada.  Zippo.  Zilch.  Seriously.

So, this is pretty much all I've got:

A cat trying to eat fake leaves and sticking her nose in a nut bowl.  Some weeks are like that.

  1. I would probably faint if my husband did something like that!

  2. I can't have decorations around either, because the cats love them and can't seem to leave them alone. You aren't the only one, believe me.

    1. Well, so far, so good. They nibbled a little but didn't do any damage and are over the intense curiosity phase. But, we do have a big problem with Christmas trees and husband wants one desperately, this year. I keep reminding him a tree is just one more thing to climb and knock things off of.

    1. He's a big fan of Thanksgiving, so I guess I shouldn't have been so shocked. We've been invited to go to a church potluck and when I told husband he looked pained. He wants to cook! Well, that's kind of cool, isn't it? Good luck getting it all together in time! :)

  4. I would pass out if my husband ever did something like that lol! And you could have a lot worse things to share that a cat with her face in a bowl! PS Love the decor!

    1. Know the feeling. I was totally shocked when husband dragged me out the door to go shopping for Thanksgiving decorations, of all things.

The cats are so crazy. I really like that photo of Fi with her face in the nut bowl, although something weird happened to the color. I couldn't even color-correct it to the right tone. Weird. Anyway, thanks! Believe it or not, everything is still in place. The cats are mostly disinterested, now, although I did see Fiona sniffing at the leaves again, today.

    1. Thanks! Yes, it is fun as long as you don't keel over from shock.

  6. LOL! Indeed some weeks are "cat in a nut bowl" weeks. Too funny. Sorry you pooped out on The Count (but I totally get that and don't blame you). I would've keeled over if any man in my life said he was ready to decorate for Thanksgiving. Wha?! lol

    1. LOL That's a great way to put it, Andiloo! This was definitely a "cat in a nut bowl" sort of week.

The Count . . . so weird to fall off that horse. I really do love the book. I can't believe I lost interest in the middle. But, this year really did take a wild turn when we bought a new house. There is so much to do. I'm constantly behind on my do lists. I kind of miss free time. Remember free time? I'll bet you haven't had any of that since little G came along. :)

    1. Thanks, Marie! It really is kind of cool that he wanted to decorate. I admit to being a bit of a Scroogy type, in recent years. The cat had fun. I love cats' curiosity.

  8. LOL. Funny how these husbands of ours continue to surprise us. Of course, if it were mine, I'd die of shock. Decorate? Shop? Never! :)

I finished Flight Behavior last week and thought it was fabulous. My review is in the queue (with 4 ahead of it), so it may be a while before I get something posted.

    Love that bowl!

    1. I know! Shopping for decorative items is so NOT on the usual husband agenda. On the plus side, I was able to get him to look at Christmas decorations, today -- thinking ahead, here. If he's going to take interest, maybe I can have some fun. ;)

Isn't Flight Behavior marvelous? It's my first Kingsolver and now I'm eyeing some others on my shelves. I'm almost finished. It'll be a while before I get to my review, as well. I am so not finding time to blog.

    2. I highly recommend The Poisonwood Bible. I liked Prodigal Summer, but not as much as PB. And, as I recall, I enjoyed her earlier works, too. Might have to re-read them someday.

  9. The decor is lovely, the cat is very funny and cute, and I feel for you that you haven't read much lately. It's going in spurts for me too. Some weeks are like that, aren't they? At least your carpet is done! :-)

    1. Thanks, Susan! Some *months* are like that, apparently. I'm on the verge of finishing my 3rd book. I haven't read so few in a month since . . . well, I can't remember. Maybe 10 years ago? It's been a while. It is definitely great to get that carpet and painting chore out of the way!
